순종과 딜레마
"사무엘이 아침까지 누웠다가 여호와의 집 문을 열었으나 그 이상을 엘리에게 알게 하기를 두려워하더니" (삼상3:15)
하나님은 우리들에게 비상한 방법으로 말씀하지 않습니다. 따라서 우리들은 하나님의 방법을 오해하기 쉽습니다. 정말 이것이 하나님의 음성일까? 하고 자문해 보기도 합니다. 이사야 선지자는 주님이 자기에게 "강한 손으로" 말씀하셨다고 (사 8:11)고백합니다. 이 뜻은 환경의 압력으로 말씀하셨다는 것입니다. 즉 우리의 삶은 하나님의 섭리가 없이는 이루어지지 않는다는 것입니다. 그러면 우리는 현재의 환경 속에서 하나님의 강한 손길을 느끼고 있는지 아니면 모든 일이 그냥 일어나고 있는지 생각하는 이 시간이 되기를 권합니다.
우리는 "여호와여 말씀하옵소서"(삼상3:9)라고 말하는 버릇을 가져야 합니다. 그러면 우리의 삶은 풍성해 질 것입니다. 환경의 압박 즉, 고난을 받을 때마다 "주여 말씀하옵소서" 라고 말하고 귀를 기울이기를 바랍니다. 고난은 우리로 하여금 "주여 말씀하옵소서"라고 말할 수 있는 경지로 우리를 이끌어 갑니다. 우리가 고난을 받았을 때 하나님께서 말씀하셨던 것을 상기해 보시기를 바랍니다. 그때 하나님이 하셨던 말씀을 잊어버리지는 않으셨는지요? “평강의 하나님이 친히 너희를 온전히 거룩하게 하시고 또 너희의 온 영과 혼과 몸이 우리 주 예수 그리스도께서 강림하실 때에 흠없게 보전되기를 원하노라” (살전5:23)
사무엘은 하나님이 보여주신 것을 엘리 제사장에게 알게 하기를 두려워한 것처럼 우리는 각자의 엘리에게 하나님이 보여주신 것을 말해야 할까 말까 하는 딜레마에 빠질 때가 있을 것입니다. 물론 하나님은 사무엘에게 엘리에 관한 메시지를 전하라고 명하진 않으셨습니다. 사무엘이 스스로 결정한 문제였습니다. 우리를 부르신 하나님의 소명은 우리 각자의 엘리에게 상처를 줄 수 있습니다. 그러나 다른 사람의 생애에 고통을 주는 일을 막으려 하면 우리 각자의 영혼과 하나님과의 사이에는 장애가 생기게 될 것입니다. 하나님이 우리 스스로 주님 앞에서 결정하라는 일에 대해서는 다른 사람의 조언을 받을 필요가 없다고 바울은 "내가 곧 혈육과 의논하지 아니하고"(갈1:16)라고 말합니다. 하나님의 말씀에 대하여 딜레마 없이 순종하는 지혜를 갖는 새빛가족이 되기를 바랍니다.
Speak Lord for I am listening
"So Samuel lay down until morning. Then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD. But Samuel was afraid to tell the vision to Eli." (1Sam3:15)
Although God does not speak to us in an unusual way, we often miss when He speaks to us. "Was that God's voice?", we wonder. Prophet Isaiah declared that the LORD spoke to him with "a strong hand" (Isaiah 8:11). Meaning, God spoke with a powerful influence of the prophetic Spirit, the foreseeing care and guidance of God. Take a moment and ask yourself: "Am I aware of God's strong hand upon me? Or are all things coincidental?"
Do you recall the last time you have called out to the Lord? Do you remember His words spoken to you? I encourage you to practice saying "Speak, Lord, your servant is listening." (1 Sam 3:9) That simple phrase will make your life prosperous. In times of trouble, whisper those words and listen closely. Trials and tribulations will lead you to a place where you will trustingly ask, "Speak to me Lord." "I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our
Lord Jesus Christ." (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
Surely, God did not tell Samuel to deliver the message to Eli. The choice was Samuel's alone. As Samuel was hesitant to tell the vision to Eli, we each have "Eli's" in our lives. We weigh the pros and cons of sharing God's revelation. When God calls us to carry out His will, it may hurt the feelings of our "Eli's" at times. Nonetheless, our effort to maintain a good relationship with our "Eli's" will put a dent in the relationship we have with God. Apostle Paul said, "...straightway I conferred not with flesh and blood..."(Galatians 1:16) It teaches us to consult no other but Christ before a God-given task.
